Marcia M. Starkey, 73, of Hanover, Pa., died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson, after a long struggle with cancer.

Born Oct. 16, 1939, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Roberta Labbe. She was the wife of Donald Starkey, whom she married June 19, 1965.

She retired in 1996 after many years as a bank manager at the Equitable Trust Bank in Baltimore. She volunteered at the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center in Hanover, and later at the Carroll County Hospital gift shop in Westminster.

She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, birdwatching and traveling with friends and family. She especially enjoyed family get-togethers.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are son David Starkey and wife Rachel, of Truckee, Calif.; daughters Geri Thommen, of Baltimore, and Marcelle Smith, of New Oxford, Pa.; and grandchildren Jonah and Gemma Starkey, and Bryan and Samantha Smith.

Per her wishes, her body was donated to the Anatomy Board of the University of Maryland Medical School.

A reception to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospital Center Auxiliary, 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
