Margaret Jane Walters, 79, of Sykesville, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia.

Born Dec. 10, 1933, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Earl Sr. and LaRue Holland Helmrich.

She had retired as a nurse from Springfield Hospital Center, where she had worked for 25 years. She was a parishioner at St. Alphonsus Rodrquez Catholic Parish in Woodstock.

She enjoyed watching the Food Network and sports, particularly NASCAR. She was a Ravens and Orioles fan. She also enjoyed baking, crochet and knitting.

Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law Charles E. Rutter Jr., of Sykesville, and John E. and Lisa Rutter, of New Windsor; daughters and sons-in-law Ellen F. and Ronnie Heaps, and Mary Lou and Bobby Bowman Sr., all of Sykesville; brother and sister-in-law Earl S. Jr. and Barbara Helmrich, of Sykesville; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Alphonsus Rodriquez Catholic Church, 10800 Old Court Road, Woodstock. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville.
