Margaret Maybelle (Pickett) Golliday , 98, of Gainesville, FL, formerly of Sykesville, MD, passed away on September 21, 2015 at Signature HealthCare of Gainesville. Mrs. Golliday was born to Lloyd and Dorothy Pickett on March 24, 1917 in Taylorsville, Maryland. She was the second of 10 children. She attended grade school in a one room school house in Hooper's Delight along with several of her brothers, sisters and cousins. She later attended Sykesville High School and graduated in 1935. After graduation she went to work at Springfield State Hospital where she received training as a licensed practical nurse and met her husband Woodrow B. Golliday. Her husband preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter Darlene Kay Henson. While raising her family Margaret helped to run Golliday's Bus Service and served for many years as the post mistress at the Springfield State Hospital post office. In her spare time she pursued her interests in gardening, ceramics and crafts such as crocheting. While living in Sykesville, she was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. Margaret moved to Gainesville in 1985 where she enjoyed retirement and continued to pursue her many interests. She and Woodrow joined Grace United Methodist Church and became active in the church. While her health permitted she was a member of the Crafty Ladies and provided many homemade items for the annual fall bazaar. Margaret is survived by one brother, Norman R. Pickett Sr. of Westminster, Maryland, a son Bobbie (Diana) Lee Pickett Golliday of Terra Alta, West Virginia, a daughter Margaret (Vernon) Charlene Henson of Sykesville, Maryland and a daughter Joan Golliday of Gainesville, Florida. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and 29 nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on October 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at The Haight Funeral Home and Chapel. Her cremains will be interred with her husband's in the Taylorsville Cemetery at a private service for family members only. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Church Street, Sykesville, MD 21784 or the . Arrangements are under the care of The Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, Sykesville, MD.
