Margaret T. Hurst Guynn, 87, of Woodbine, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.

Born Oct. 1, 1925, in Carroll County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Jesse Crockett Hurst and the late Margaree Earline Lindsey Hurst. She was the wife of the late Riley Howard Guynn.

She was an industrial therapy counselor for Springfield State Hospital. She was a member of, and very active in, Calvary Lutheran Church in Mount Airy, where she served on many committees and sang in the choir.

She was the Carroll County Outstanding Woman of the Year, presented by the Soroptimist International of Westminster on April 18, 1994. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, traveling and camping around the country with her husband.

She was a member of the Southern States Board. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Springfield State Hospital Center after her retirement. She moved from Wytheville, Va. to Carroll County, Md., with her husband in 1949.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.

Surviving are daughters Margaret Anne and husband Alan Fink, of Westminster, and Eveline Kay and husband George Shipley, of Woodbine; siblings Helen Andrews and Carroll Montgomery, both of Wytheville; and grandchildren Jerome Guynn, Sierra Guynn, Kimberly Hammer and husband Mike, Jason Shipley and wife Melissa, and Matthew Shipley.

She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters; and children Jesse Howard "Jay" Guynn and David Wayne Guynn.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 16151 Old Frederick Road, Mount Airy, with the Revs. Eric and Anke Deibler officiating. Interment will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville.
