Maria Teresa "Marie" Isabella Coffey, 79, of Frederick, died Sunday, June 10, 2012, after a long battle against chronic lung disease.

Born Nov. 12, 1932, in Bronx, N.Y., she was the youngest of six children of the late Olga Vitelli Sordini and Dario Vitelli. She was the wife of Kenneth Richard Coffey Sr., who she married May 8, 1954, and who died Nov. 22, 2004.

She met her husband while working at Gibbs and Cox in New York City. The family moved from Crugers, N.Y., to Westminster in 1969. She and her husband retired to New Bern, N.C., in 1993. She moved from New Bern to Homewood at Crumland Farms in 2008.

During her years in New Bern, she was recognized for her work with ceramics many of which are now family heirlooms. She was also an avid fan of music, and worked for a time at Coffey Music in Westminster.

She also enjoyed watching sports and following politics. She especially enjoyed cooking and was known among her family and friends for her expertise in preparing homemade Italian foods.

She made friends very quickly and had done so upon her move to New Bern, where she still has many close friends. Similarly, she enjoyed her close friends at Homewood at Crumland Farms including Mary Alice Marks, John Deason, Elizabeth Trout, Nancy Mitchell, Dr. Leroy "Reds" Davis, and Eloise Power. She enjoyed her time at Homewood at Crumland Farms and was friends with many of the staff members there.
