Marie Elizabeth Banahan, 88, of Hampstead, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at home after battling a lung disease.

Born Jan. 6, 1924, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Pearl (Baker) Herman. She was the wife of Francis Edward Banahan, her husband of 66 years.

She was a hairdresser prior to her retirement. She was a member of Saint Bartholomew's Catholic Church and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. She enjoyed spending time with her family and baking her favorite dishes for the holidays and family gatherings.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children Harriet and husband Lon Bishop, of Ruckersville,Va.; Deborah and husband Frank Novotny, of Westminster; William and wife Linda Banahan, of Hampstead; and Ray Banahan, of Ocean City; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead.

A service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Michael Roach officiating. Inurnment will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
