Dr. Mark Allen Freter, 54, of Lakeside, Ariz., formerly of Carroll County, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at home following a brief illness.

Born March 6, 1959, he was the son of Sandra Tucker Freter, of Willow Springs, Mo., and the late Henry "Hank" Freter. He was the husband of DeAnne Freter.

His family moved from Carroll County to Willow Springs when he was a youth. He graduated Willow Springs High School as valedictorian of the class of 1977. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1981, with an undergraduate degree in animal husbandry. He was active in Campus Ministry, which led to his ordination. He then served as associate minister in Anchorage, Alaska. From there he entered the study of medicine and earned his medical degree in 1991.

He was board certified in family practice but worked exclusively in emergency medicine. He received many letters of thanks from his patients and their families, thanking him for his care and compassion. He enjoyed teaching and took time to help co-workers improve their skills.

He married Dr. Lori Lehnhoff, of Rolla, Mo., in 1985 and had two children. He liked spending time with his children, sharing his enjoyment of skiing, travel, fly fishing and guitar playing. His religious faith was important to him.

He worked in various places including Missouri, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Arizona, where he met and married his wife DeAnne in 2006.

Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are children Seth and Sage Freter, of Yakima, Wash.; a brother, Kevin Freter, of Willow Springs; brother Michael Freter and wife Joy, and three nephews, of Tulsa, Okla.; his wife's daughters and eight grandchildren, of Lakeside; uncle Allen Tucker and wife Jeannie, of Newton, N.C.; aunts Nancy Barnes, and Miriam Beck and husband Edward, of Sykesville; several cousins; and a host of friends.
