Marshall James "Mike" Green Sr., 77, of New Windsor, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, after an extended illness.

Born Aug. 23, 1936, in Sykesville, he was the son of the late Mae Savoy Clifford and was raised by godmother Mary Frances Jenkins-Green. He was the husband of Velma R. Owens Green, his wife of 55 years.

He was a 1955 graduate of Robert Moton High School. He retired from Lehigh Portland Cement Plant in Union Bridge and also worked for Change Inc. He was head deacon for more than 30 years at Gospel Spreading Church in Union Bridge.

He and his wife were foster parents for more than 40 years in the Carroll County community. He also volunteered at Carroll Hospital Center and was the chief cook of Kettle Fried Chicken at the Westminster Fall Fest for more than 30 years. He enjoyed traveling, Westerns, trains and his pets Bear-Bear, Missy and Molly-Daisy.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children and spouses Randy and Rebia Magruder, of Baltimore, Marian "Cookie" Smith, of Owings Mills, Lorianne and Gary Clark, of Hanover, Pa., Marshall J. "Jamie" Jr. and Anna Green, of Hampstead, Tracie Roseboro, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Christopher and Wendy Green, of Hanover; an aunt, Dorothy Horsey, of Sykesville; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Photus Roseboro; granddaughters Photani and Paula Roseboro; and a sister, Betty Crenshaw.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. Saturday at Crossroads Community Church, 895 Leidy Road, Westminster, with his sons, the Revs. Marshall J. "Jamie" Green Jr. and Christopher Green, officiating. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery.
