Marvin Samuel Sowers, 85, of Stevensville, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at home.

Born Nov. 10, 1927, in Martinsville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Albert Sowers and Lena Miller Sowers. He was the husband of the late Anna Smith Sowers.

During World War II, he served in the Army's 161st Recon Squadron and later worked as a driver and mechanic for the Ferrell gas company. He and his wife owned and operated an antique shop in Taneytown.

He enjoyed gardening and refurbishing furniture for the family's shop. His especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving are daughter Karen Sowers Redden and husband Kenneth, of Stevensville; grandchildren Nicholas, Alexander, Daniel, Mary Elizabeth, Patrick, Claire Marie, Sean, and Thomas Goldsborough, and Garrett, Logan and Abigail Redden; and great-grandchildren Axel and Owen.

He was predeceased by two sisters; and grandchildren Emmett and Christopher.

Friends may call from noon until the time of memorial service, 2 p.m. Saturday at  Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester.
