Mary Eleanor "Ellie" Wood, age 82, of Sykesville, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Carroll Hospice's Dove House. Born February 18, 1933, in Baltimore, MD she was the daughter of the late Sydney and Elizabeth Barcus Renehan. She was the wife of the late Donald Francis Wood who died in 1992 and whom she married on May 26, 1956. Eleanor had retired as a Nursing Instructor at the Springfield Hospital Center, Sykesville where she had worked for 35 years. She had attended Mt. St. Agnes College and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She was a longtime member of St. John's Catholic Church, Westminster where she had been active over the years as a Eucharistic Minister and had been president of the Wisdom Club. She had spent the past few years at Bethania Assisted Living where she had received compassionate care from Chico Waminal. Ellie especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law; Mary Wood VanderVeer of Westminster, Donna Wood and James Robbins of Eldersburg and Carolynne Wood and Stephen Beal of Westminster; brothers; Timothy Renehan of VA and Michael Renehan of Taneytown; loving and devoted sister, Frances E. French of Catonsville (who visited her weekly); grandchildren, Shaun P.(wife Amy), Kyle J.(wife Mallory) and Matthew D. (wife Brianna) VanderVeer, Mackenzie E. and Austin J. "A.J." Robbins and Brayden J. and Benjamin F. Beal; and great-grandchildren; Brennan, Makenna, Allison, Paisley, Caleb, Adelyn and Olivia VanderVeer and sister-in-law with whom she hade lived for several years, Alice Ann Wood Uhler of Essex and brother-in-law, David R. Wood. She was predeceased by siblings, Sydney, Hugh, Pat, Dennis and Loretta Renehan. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Raod, Sykesville. A funeral liturgy will be held on Monday at 10 AM at St. John's Catholic Church, 45 Monroe Street, Westminster. Interment will be in Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville on Monday at 2 PM. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the National .
