Mary Elizabeth Robinson Spence, 102 of Sykesville, died Friday, August 22, 2014 at her home. Born January 7, 1912 in Marriottsville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Howard and Mary Tyler Robinson. She was the wife of the late Roscoe Spence. She had been a psychiatric nursing assistant for many years at Henryton Hospital and later volunteered at Eldersburg Elementary School. She was a lifelong member of West Liberty United Methodist Church in Marriottsville where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, church secretary, Communion steward, historian, member of the United Methodist Women, Lay Delegate to the Annual Conference, and other roles. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and caring for her family. Surviving are daughters Precious Morrison of Sykesville, and Patricia Dorsey and her husband Nelson of Westminster, 11 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her children, Luther Robinson and Barbara Lee Spence, and by her siblings. Friends may call at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church, 961 Johnsville Rd., Eldersburg , where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
