Mary Louise "Boots" Gramkow, a resident of Howard County for more than 40 years, died September 10, 2016 in Sandy Spring, MD. She was 84. Mrs. Gramkow was very involved in the preservation of historic houses in Maryland, especially in Howard County. She served on the board of the Maryland Historic Trust in the 1980's. In the 1970's she worked tirelessly in western Howard County to encourage residents to vote for a minimum of three acre zoning. She was instrumental in encouraging many historic home owners to register their houses on the National Register of Historic Homes. She was also involved with the Parents Association of Glenelg Country Day School,in the 1960's, was a long time member of the Howard County Garden Club, and served on the Altar Guild at St. Andrew's Church in Glenwood. Mrs. Gramkow is survived by her two children, Ted Gramkow of Hudson, New York and Debbie Morton of Park City, Utah, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Edwin Warfield (Ted) Gramkow. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Glenwood, MD on October 29, 2016 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made the the Brooke Grove Foundation (bgf.org) or to St. Andrew's Church (standrews.episcopalmaryland.org).
