Mary Mildred Waltz, 87, of Westminster, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Carroll Lutheran Village.

Born Nov. 24, 1925, in High Point, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Mattie Causey and Everette Lee Melton. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Waltz, whom she married Feb. 4, 1944.

She was a graduate of Yadkinville High School and Jones Business College, both in North Carolina. She later completed a nursing assistant program at Catonsville Community College and was employed at Westminster Nursing Home as a medicine aide.

She was a longtime active member of Zion United Methodist Church in Shipley, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years, was a member of United Methodist Women, lay speaker and Bible school teacher. She was recognized for her exceptional service to the church. She was honored by the Carroll County Literacy Council in 2002 for Tutor of the Year.

Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Waltz, of Morganton, N.C.; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Melton and Charlotte Waltz, of Westminster; granddaughter Anne Marie Wilkinson and husband Craig, of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandchildren Connor, Alexandra and Catherine Wilkinson; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Susan Waltz, on July 8.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road,Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church, 2716 Old Washington Road, Shipley, with the Rev. David Carter-Rimbach officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Zion United Methodist Church, 2716 Old Washington Road, Westminster, MD 21157.
