Mary Patricia Hemler, 65, of Taneytown, died Saturday, May 10, 2014, at home, after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born March 20, 1949, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of George R. and Frances C. Hemler, of Taneytown.

She attended St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg, and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. She taught and coached students at Old Court Junior High School and Randallstown High School within Baltimore County Public Schools from 1970 until her retirement in 2005. Upon retirement from BCPS until 2013, she was employed within the Education Department of Maryland Public Television, where she worked with several local math content developers.

She was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Taneytown, where she served several terms as president of the Parish Council and as a Liturgy Reader and was St. Joseph Church's liaison within the Taneytown Caring and Sharing Ministry.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are lifetime companion Mary S. Linden; brothers George R. Hemler III and wife Pramern, Joseph V. Hemler and wife Lisa, all of Taneytown, and David A. Hemler and wife Elaine, of Westminster; sisters Christine Hammond and husband Ron, of Taneytown, and Angela Eyler and husband Greg, of Union Bridge; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She donated her body to the Maryland Anatomy Board for cancer research.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, with Monsignor Martin Feild as celebrant.
