Mary Irene Singer Scibelli passed away at UMD Charles Regional Hospital in La Plata, MD on June 25, 2015. Mary was born on July 2, 1930 near Uniontown, MD to the late John Hamilton and Bertha (Marshall) Singer. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Bernard Scibelli; a sister, Margaret Louise Singer Sherry; a brother, John Roger Singer and her nephew, Michael Barnett. She is survived by her aunt Margaret Singer of Sykesville, MD; her step-son David Scibelli and his wife, Peggy of Walkersville, MD; sisters, Annabelle Creamer of Hunt Valley, MD; Susan Graham and her husband Bruce, of La Plata, MD; Evelyn Blizzard of Henderson, TN; Eleanor Black and husband Roy, of Union Bridge, MD; Carol Suter and husband Ron, of Lafayette, IN; Linda Martin, of Canadensis, PA; Donna Barnett and husband Wayne of Uniontown, MD, sister-in-law Mary Singer of Littlestown, PA; 23 nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. She loved life on the dairy farm, especially Holstein cows. As the first child in a family of 10 children there was always something to do. She loved to cook and bake, especially fruit pies. Mary graduated in 1947 from New Windsor High School, New Windsor, MD. After graduation, she moved to Baltimore, MD where she worked at Maryland Casualty until her marriage. Mary married Ben Scibelli, on July 7, 1980 and was a homemaker in Sharpsville, PA. She and Ben loved to travel and she had many pen pals, always remembering birthdays and anniversaries. Reading was her favorite pastime. She was a great story-teller; especially about life before electricity and telephones, and relatives that her younger siblings never knew. Although she never had children of the own, her sisters and brothers were happy to share theirs with her. After Ben passed away, Mary moved to Indiana and lived with her sister Carol Suter, until an apartment was found in Frederick, MD. When her health became an issue, her sister, Susan Graham, along with her husband Bruce, and niece Sandra Boenig, moved her to assisted living in Waldorf, MD and became her caregivers until her passing. Mary, her stories and sense of humor; will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, 1114 N Mount St., Baltimore, MD 21217. A service and interment will take place at a later date.
