Mary Katharine Smith, 70, of Frederick, died Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Northampton Manor, Frederick, after an extended illness. Born March 27, 1945 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late William "Boodie" and Margaret Stitely Smith. Ms. Smith was a member of the first graduating class of Linganore High School in 1963. She was employed for 35 years at Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick. She was a member of Chapel Lutheran Church, near Libertytown, where she was a former member of the choir. Mary enjoyed dancing, reading, John Wayne movies, listening to country music, collecting coffee mugs, watching the Hallmark and Food channels, attending local carnivals and the shows at the Frederick Fair. Surviving are 2 sisters, Joan V. Moxley and husband Bill, near Libertytown and Annie R. Harley of Frederick; goddaughter and great niece, Kelsey Facemire; adopted daughter, Krissie Alvey; adopted grandson, A.J. Alvey; niece, Judy Martin and husband Larry; 2 nephews, Thomas Harley and wife Kristen and Donald Harley and wife Jennifer; 2 other great nieces, Megan and Gracie Harley; 3 great nephews, Kevin Facemire and wife Rhiannon, Curtis Facemire and wife Mary and Joshua Harley; 4 great great nephews, Alec, Liam, Landon and Corbin Facemire; great great niece, Felice Facemire; numerous cousins; foster sister, Joan Imes; special friends, Pat Thompson, Jan Joy, Connie and John Sloniger and Garnetta Masser. Special appreciation is expressed by the family to caregivers, Stephanie Michael, Jane Hamburg, Linda Philpot, Karen Dorsey, Annette Cooney, Heather Hanes, Carol Rausch, Kevin and Curtis Facemire, with special thanks to Donnie and Megan Harley. She was predeceased by sister, Susie L. Smith and brother-in-law, Gary M. Harley, both in 2013. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Chapel Lutheran Church, 11109 Daysville Rd., with Rev. Kathryn Rohrbach, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 28. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Chapel Lutheran Church, c/o James Beard, 4222 Coxey Brown Rd., Myersville, MD 21773.
