Maude Elizabeth Smith-Luhn, 89, of Mount Airy, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, after a long illness.

Born Sept. 16, 1924, in Marion, Va., she was the daughter of the late George and Minnie Goodman-Clark. She was the wife of the late Clyde Smith.

She attended school in Marion. She was employed in various places as a seamstress and retired in 1991 with 11 years of service from Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville.

She enjoyed quilting and being with family and friends.

Surviving are daughter Sheila Joy and husband Daniel Joy, of Mount Airy; grandchildren Jessica Smith, of Hanover, Pa., and Shawna Ruby and husband Josh, of Emmitsburg; and great-grandchildren Jameson, Jonas and Sophia, all of Emmitsburg.

She was predeceased by a son, James C. Smith; brothers Garland, Sidney, June, Herm, Ambers, Charles and Tom Clark; sisters Grey and Mildred Clark, Clara Cole, Ida Evans and Virginia Richardson.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion Gold Star Post 191, Prospect Road, Mount Airy.

A funeral service and internment will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Walkers Creek Presbyterian Church, 2007 Cleghorn Valley Road, Marion.
