Melba Mielke Lippy, 90, of Parkville, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at her daughter's home in Westminster.

Born June 4, 1923, to Walter and Addie Leonard in Tabor City, N.C., she was one of six children. She married the late Earl Mielke in 1948, and then the late Bob Lippy in 1990.

She graduated valedictorian of her high school class, completed her nursing degree and served as a Navy nurse. Spending time with family, sewing, traveling and planning family vacations gave her great joy. She served in her church throughout her lifetime.

Surviving are children Earl Louis Mielke and wife Mildred, of Lake Anna, Va., Barbara Jean Yates and husband Brad, of Westminster, and David Charles Mielke and wife Adrienne, of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister Alden Leonard, of Fayetteville, N.C.; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandsons.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel at Oak Crest Village, 8820 Walther Blvd., Parkville. Following, will be a luncheon and fellowship in the Garden Room. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD 20785; or Timonium United Methodist Church, 2300 Pot Spring Road, Timonium, MD 21093.
