Melvin J. Fair, Sr., of Reisterstown, Maryland passed away July 30 at age 91. Melvin was the son of George and Grace Fair and grandson of Jacob and Dora Helwig. Surviving Melvin are his wife of 69 years, Ruby (Neudecker), son Mel Jr. and his wife Bonnie, son John and his wife Linda, and daughter Linda Harden, six grandchildren and ten great-children. He was a Purple Heart Veteran of WWII. After returning from the war he began his own trucking company, and was honored last year by the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) for his 50 years in the trucking industry. Melvin was an avid hunter and fisherman, and felt that any day outdoors was a good day. He also loved long summer Saturday evenings spent with family and friends at Lincoln Speedway. He and his wife were long time members of Emory UM Church, where they remained active members for over fifty years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stained Glass Window Restoration Fund at Emory UM Church, 1600 Emory Road, Upperco, MD 21155.
