Melvin "Pop Mels" Mowrey Jr., 76, of Reisterstown, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster, after a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 14, 1938, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Melvin Sr. and Dorothy Sher Mowrey. He was the husband of Alice Faye Sanders Mowrey, his wife of 47 years.

He retired from Sweetheart Cup Company after a 46 year career. He held several patents, including one for the machine that punctures the straw slot into a plastic lid. He was a family man, who took pride in the accomplishments of his children.

He enjoyed time at the Bay and spent a lot of time outdoors.

Surviving are children and spouses Victor and Anna Mowrey, Robin Mowrey, Tim and Jo-Ann Mowrey, Lisa and Dimitri Saad, Michael and Sheryl Mowrey, John and Patricia Mowrey; grandchildren Shannon Mowrey, TJ Mowrey, Laura Raville, Samantha and Matthew Saad, Alexis, Austin and Ava Mowrey, Scott Mowrey, Jason and Kevin Mowrey; a sister-in-law, Patricia Sanders; and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Jacob Mowrey, and Emerson Raville.

He was predeceased by a son, David Mowrey.

Per his request, his body was donated to the Anatomy Board. There will be no service and interment will be private.
