Mildred Mary "Millie" Smith, 81, of Taneytown, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.

Born June 19, 1931, in Libertytown, she was the daughter of the late William and Johanna Morrissey Riordan. She was the wife of the late Martin R. Smith.

She was a nurse at Kernans Hospital in Baltimore prior to raising her family.

She was an active member and communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown and a member of the Ladies Sodality of the Blessed Mother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and card games, and was always in prayer for family and friends.

Surviving are daughters Kathleen Smith, Kimberly Smith, and Tina Adams and husband Todd, all of Taneytown; a brother, Edward Riordan, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Joan Boyd, of Littlestown, Pa.; grandsons Christopher Ricketts, of Florida, and Shawn Ricketts, of Frederick; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by siblings Marie Davis, Frances Hollman, Eleanor Shepley, Catherine Wantz, William Riordan and Margaret Adams.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, with Rosary prayers at 8 p.m.

A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 W. Frederick St., Taneytown, with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Keysville Union Cemetery in Keysville.
