Minola Ellen Barnhart, of Eldersburg, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, following a monthlong illness.

She was the wife of the late Melvin A. Barnhart Jr.

She was an artist, art teacher, author, musician and designer. For years she taught ceramic art in her Randallstown studio. She wrote numerous articles for Popular Ceramics magazine and judged many art shows.

Later in life, she designed and created antique lace pillows, which she sold at craft shows throughout the mid-Atlantic. During the months preceding her passing, she returned to the medium of her childhood, painting numerous oils on canvas depicting skies and landscapes.

She and her husband were founding members of The American Party of Maryland in the 1970s, an alternative political party that nominated and ran her for public office. She traveled throughout the Middle East, Europe and Japan. She was a member of the Grand Chapter of Maryland Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are children George Don-Lynn Barnhart and wife Mary Teresa, and Melvin Herschel Barnhart and wife Marsha J.; grandchildren Melvin R. Barnhart, Beven-George Liam Barnhart, and Patric Tracey Joseph Barnhart; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and brothers Richard Anderson, of Dark Hollow, Upperco, and Dr. Don-Lynn Anderson, of Cambria, Calif.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Minola Jane Barnhart.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Mount Paran Church in Randallstown.
