Ms. Miriam B. Burleson, 84, of New Windsor, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at her home after a brief illness. Born November 5, 1930 in New Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Edgar E. and Lucy Cooper Billings. Ms. Burleson was a 1948 graduate of New Windsor High School, completed her undergraduate studies at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and received her master's degree at Western Maryland College. She was employed by the Carroll County Board of Education as a media specialist for 20 years at Francis Scott Key High School. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, New Windsor, where she served as secretary of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the New Windsor Lions Club and the Carroll County Retired Teachers' Association. She served as secretary of the Springdale Village Association. She was an avid golfer playing with numerous groups, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Myrtle Billings of New Windsor; 3 nephews, Ralph K. Billings and wife Janet, near Westminster; Alan E. Billings and wife April Sue of Taneytown and Jeffrey C. Billings of New Windsor; 7 great nieces and nephews, Joy Stanley and husband Shaun, Eric Billings and wife Abby, Carrie Billings, Jason Billings and wife Amy, Zachary Billings, Lindsay Billings and Blake Billings; and 6 great great nieces and nephews, Hunter and Hailey Stanley; Avery, Andrew, Brianna and Gavin Billings. She was predeceased by a brother, Emery Billings. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 21, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Colin Phillips, officiating. Interment will be in Winters Cemetery, near New Windsor. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 20.
