Molly G. Bruce, 93, of Union Bridge, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Goodwill Mennonite Home in Grantsville.

Born July 31, 1919, in London, England, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna May Wilson Bruce.

Living close to Buckingham Palace, she and her siblings played with Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. She had worked as a nanny and was a companion to a lady known as Mrs. O.D. She survived the bombings of London and was an air raid warden.

She came to America in 1947 and went into training to become a nurse. She worked at City Hospital in Baltimore and went into business running a dude ranch with Joni Erickson in Sykesville. Later she accepted a position at Springfield Hospital Center, followed by 23 years as a nurse at Spring Grove Hospital Center, Baltimore.

She was always interested in all sport activities and travel, traveling to Belgium, France, Holland, Ireland, Italy and Switzerland. She raised Welch Pembroke Corgis, which she showed in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia; and she worked with the Potomac Welch Pembroke Club. She was a member of Ascension Episcopal Church in Westminster.

She enjoyed the outdoors.

Surviving are a siblings Jessie Hoyle and David Laurie, both of Canvey Island, Essex, England; friends Joy Badger, of Union Bridge, Mary Locke, of Sykesville, and Jane L. Sealing, of Bittinger.

She was also predeceased by a brother, who was killed in Normandy, during the war.

At her request, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Newman Funeral Homes in Grantsville.
