Neil Franklin Howes, age 68 of Eldersburg, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Carroll Hospital, Westminster, MD with his loving wife of 33 years, Susan M. D'Angelo Howes by his side. Born June 21, 1947 (not 1942), he was the beloved son of James Fletcher Howes and Estelle Elliot Howes and brother of Faith Jeanette Howes Berrall. Neil was a survivor of the Vietnam War who loved spending time with his family and was an avid hunter. He was also a pretty good cook with a great sense of humor and a larger than life persona. Neil touched and helped many people through his dedicated 22 years of sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous and was most proud of the relationships with his large and diverse family. He is survived by his wife and sister, as well as his daughters , Melissa Lynn Kocian and Angela Rebecca Sevison and his son, Thomas James Howes, his sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, his six grand children and his many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and friends, too many to count. He was dearly loved and cherished by them all. The family will receive friends for Neil's life celebration from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the American Legion Post 31, located at 2 Sycamore Street Westminster, MD 21157. Please bring a covered dish and memories of Neil to share. The family requests that you email or bring hard copies of special memories of Neil so they can be compiled to share together and also in the future. *Donations can be given or made out to Susan Howes and will be forwarded on as a contribution to Alcoholics Anonymous by the family in the name of Neil Franklin Howes.
