Nell Jones Patton, 83, of Sykesville, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Ridge Overlook in Westminster.

Born Sept. 27, 1929, in Jefferson, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Donald Jones and Virgie Hampton Jones Marsh. She was the wife of Howard Henry Patton, her husband of 57 years, who died Nov. 6, 2004.

She and her husband purchased her childhood home at an estate auction and together they set about renovating and decorating it. They enjoyed the home with family and friends and for many years hosted the annual Patton Family Reunion.

She also enjoyed traveling and, after getting over her fear of flying, traveled through Europe as well as a cruising the QE II. She looked forward to attending her husband's yearly World War II Army Reunion, held in different cities every year. She and her husband hosted two such reunions in Baltimore.

She took pleasure and pride in spending time with her granddaughters, who were also her favorite photography subjects. An animal lover, she spent a lot of time taking care of her many dogs and cats throughout the years. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law Donald H. and Vicky A. Patton, of Mount Airy, and David S. and Kellie E. Patton, of Finksburg; and granddaughters Fallon and Sophia Patton, of Finksburg; sister Donna Neal and husband Jack, of Jefferson, N.C.; a brother-in-law, William A. Patton, of Petersburg, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews in Delaware, Virginia and North Carolina.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with a memorial service at 7:30 p.m., with Chaplain David Bare, of Carroll Hospice Dove House, officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice Inc., Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
