Nellie Sue Shifflett, age 72 of Gloucester, Virginia passed away on Sunday January 29, 2017 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. Born in Rogersville, Tennessee to parents John and Ruby Greer to a loving family, who had a total of eight children. Nellie devoted her life to being a nurse, providing loving care to patients at Springfield State Hospital, Eastern State Hospital and Walter Reed Convalescent Center. Nellie always welcomed everyone who came to her door and never let anyone leave hungry. She always saw the positive in everyone who crossed her path. She was kind and generous beyond compare. She had faith in the Lord that carried her through many troubled times. She was a survivor of breast cancer and a cardiac bypass. She showed strength and courage as she battled Myelodysplatic syndrome. She was an angel her on earth but God called her home. She is survived by her husband Ruben (Billy) Shifflett whom she was married to for almost 52 years. She is also survived by her children, Dawn and Mark Mccoy of Martinsburg,WV, Robert and Rebecca Shifflett of Salem, WV, Billy and Diana Shifflett of Gloucester, VA and Tina and Timothy Welsh of Gloucester, VA.Grandchildren, Robert and Latisha Shifflett, Billy Shifflett, Joshua Shifflett, Timothy and Jenna Welsh, Samantha Welsh, Tyler Mccoy, Dalton Mccoy, Harley Shifflett, and Savannah Welsh. Great Grandchildren, Hayden, Lily, Brentley and another great grandson to arrive in July. Brother, Robert Greer and Mary Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby, brothers Charles and James. Sisters, Janet, Deal and Shirley. Funeral Services will be held Saturday February 4, 2017 at 11am at Hogg Funeral Home in Gloucester Point, VA. The family receive family and friends Friday February 3, 2017 from 6pm to 730pm. Burial will be at Bellamy Cementery.
