Pastor Norman D. Kemmerer, 78, of Hampstead, passed away Saturday January 30, 2016 at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in Baltimore MD. Born October 7, 1937 in Frankfort, IN, he was the son of the late John E. and Ruth Lucille Mitchell Kemmerer. He was the husband of Barbara A. Baxter Kemmerer, his wife of 54 years. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 11 years. Following his service, he worked for 16 years at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, MD. He was then called to the ministry during a lay witness mission at his church in Thurmont, MD and became a United Methodist minister. He pastored for 23 years, serving Blairton, Greensburg, Salem and Berkley Place United Methodist Churches in West Virginia and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Myersville, MD, from which he retired in 2000 after 17 years. He was a member of Francis Scott Key Post 11 of the American Legion and a former member of the Myersville Lions Club. He enjoyed sailing and being on the water. He built his first boat in the parsonage garage in Blairton and sailed ever since then. Surviving, in addition to his wife are his daughter, Pam Kemmerer of Hampstead; two brothers, John E. Kemmerer, Jr. and James F. Kemmerer of Indiana; three sisters, Anne Tolley and Sharon Leslie, both of Indiana and Sally Colbert of Georgia. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Lane and Betty White and brother, Ralph Kemmerer. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Melissa Rudolph officiating. Interment will be in Hampstead Cemetery.
