Norman Reno Houck, 100, of Taneytown, died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Lookabout Manor Assisted Living near Westminster.

Born Jan. 26, 1914, in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Jeremiah "Frank" and Marie Adams Houck. He was the husband of Mary Koontz Houck, his wife of 68 years.

He was a 1934 graduate of Taneytown High School. He and his wife farmed for 23 years before moving to Taneytown, where he worked for Marvin Wolfe for many years before retiring.

He enjoyed woodworking and donated his labor to many organizations. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown, where he served on the cemetery board. He was also active at the Emmitsburg Senior Center.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are nieces Thelma Carr and Edna Stephan, of Westminster, Anna Ebaugh, of Ocean City, Virginia Stitely, of Florida, and Shirley Shaffer, of Hanover, Pennsylvania; and nephews Raymond and Dave Baker, of Westminster, and Richard Koontz, of Taneytown.

He was predeceased by sisters Marie Baker and Ruth Hoffman; and nephews Junior Baker, and Charles and James Hoffman.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Stacy Marsh officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown MD 21787.
