Norman W. Meekins, 94, of Sykesville, formerly of Reisterstown, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born May 13, 1918, in Stevenson, he was the son of the late Norman L. and Grace Hoxter Meekins. He was the husband of Dorothy Bradley Fuss Meekins and the late Elsie K. Meekins.

He was a construction contractor and owner of Meekins Construction Company. He served in the Army.

He was an active member of Reisterstown United Methodist Church, and was a past president and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Reisterstown for 63 years. He was also past president of the Reisterstown Owings Mills Glyndon Chamber of Commerce, on the original Advisory Board for Catonsville Community College, sat on the Board of Directors of Glyndon Federal Savings and Loan, and was on the Advisory Board of Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Department.

He learned to play tennis at age 60 and had continued to play up until recently. He also enjoyed gardening.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son and daughters Stewart Meekins, of Reisterstown, Lois McCormick, of Reston, Va. and Joyce Meekins, of Greenbelt; a brother, R. Leon Meekins, of Arnold; grandchildren Wendy Smith, Heather Unkart, Benjamin McCormick, Greta Shackelford and Leslie Primack; stepchildren Sandra Kehne, and Charles, Bruce, Barbara and Mark Bradley; six great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, William J. Meekins.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Reisterstown United Methodist Church, 246 Main St., Reisterstown. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
