Orville Richard "Pappy" Martin, 84, of Frederick, formerly of Damascus, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born March 10, 1928, in Snydersburg, he was the son of the late William and Myra Reed Martin. He was the husband of the late Frances L. Martin, his wife of 47 years.

He attended and graduated from Hampstead High School. Following graduation he served in the Navy. He worked as office manager for Suburban Propane in Rockville, retiring in 1990; and for Gladhill Brothers John Deere Farm Equipment in Damascus.

He had spent many years volunteering with multiple organizations including the American Legion Post 171 in Damascus. He was a member and past master of Lebanon Lodge No. 175 AF&AM Hampstead, Frederick Moose Lodge, Damascus Travel Club and Carroll Commandery No.17 Knights Templar in Westminster.

He was a member of Wesley Grove United Methodist Church at Woodfield, where he served as choir director for many years; and enjoyed many friendships. He enjoyed many interests including music, travel, bowling and dancing.

Surviving are sons Keith A. Martin and wife Patricia, of Gambrills, and Rodney W. Martin and wife Melinda, of Jefferson; grandchildren Jeremy A. Martin, Chelsey A. Martin, Joseph R. Martin, and Chad W. Martin; and sisters Aita Reese and Marlene Rohrbaugh.

He was predeceased by two sisters.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, 23640 Woodfield Road, Gaithersburg. Private inurnment will held at a later date.
