Paul Norman "Pop" Barrett, 85, of Westminster, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the Dove House. Born May 22, 1931 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Robert Dan Barrett and Blanche (Arrington) Barret. He was the husband of the late Mary Zula Becker Barrett. He owned and operated Barrett's Chicken Farm in Pleasant Valley, worked for Wheeler's Floor Fashions and then Mercer Carpet One for more than 35 years before retiring and working part time for Carroll Hospital Center. He served in the Army from 1953-1961 where he received the National Defense Service Metal and Good Conduct Metal. After serving in the Army he became a civilian steam pipe fitter for Fort Detrick while working for Ross Plumbing, then worked for Chester Crowl Plumbing. He loved to spend time outdoors crabbing, fishing and camping with his family. He was in foster care with his wife for a number of years; providing a loving home for over 100 children. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jeffrey Shaffer, Helen Barrett-Abrams and Dale, and Robin Barrett, sons and daughter-in-law, Paul S. and Debbie Barrett and Timothy Barrett, a sister Dorothy Wheeler, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson Timmy Barrett, granddaughter Mikayla Barrett, sister Blanche Barrett and brothers, Warren, Robert Dan and George Barrett. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Christopher Carabell officiating.
