Paul Spencer Garver, 87, of New Windsor, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Carroll Hospice Dove House, following a brief illness. Born January 17, 1928 in New Windsor, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Fannie Dorsey Garver. He was the husband of Marilyn Elizabeth Geer Garver, who predeceased him in 1999. Mr. Garver entered the Navy in 1947, serving as a Seabee in Guam prior to the Korean War. He was formerly employed in construction with Joe Legon in Finksburg and then worked for one year for his father-in-law, R.B. Geer. He retired after 22 years as an agent with Prudential Life Insurance Company. He was a lifelong member of Linwood Brethren Church, where he taught Sunday school for 20 years and was a past trustee. He was also a member of the Underwriters Association. He and his wife were volunteers with Meals on Wheels for 24 years. In younger years he enjoyed handiwork in wood, traveling, and always had enjoyed reading, especially his time spent reading the Bible every day. Surviving are three sons, Paul G. Garver and wife, Susie of Taneytown, Richard L. Garver and wife, Celeste of Westminster; and Robert B. Garver of Canby, OR; granddaughters, Melissa Goodwin and Sarah Jane Silverman; grandsons, Robert and Eli Garver; three great-grandsons; brother, E. Buckey Garver of New Windsor; sister, Elizabeth Wantz of Westminster; and one niece, Jane Wantz of Westminster. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family in Winters Cemetery, New Windsor. Rev. Dan Ceary, his pastor, will officiate. There will be no public visitation.
