Pearl Alma Costley Sims, 77, of Columbia, S.C., died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. She was the wife of Waddell T. Sims.

Born Oct. 13, 1935, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Theodore Sembly and Mabel V. Costley.

She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Taylorsville. She was employed in the past as an operator for the New York Telephone Company and as a clerk for Royal Globe Insurance Company. The job she most enjoyed was that of a homemaker.

She and her husband settled in Columbia, where she lived out her days.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are sons Thomas Sims, of Bronx, N.Y., Robert Sims, of Jamaica, N.Y., Anthony Sims, of Baltimore, and Richard Sims, of New York, N.Y.; daughters Tanya Pittman and husband James, of Rose Hill, N.C., and Cheryl Sims, of Sunnyside, N.Y.; a grandson, Robert Sims Jr., of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Patricia Sims, of Brooklyn; great-grandsons Delante and Nigel; a sister, Patricia M. Hutchins, of Brooklyn; a sister-in-law, Catherine A. Washington, of Baltimore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview United Methodist Church, 3325 Old Liberty Road, New Windsor. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.
