Peter Stephen Kozlek, 73, of Finksburg, MD, formerly of Pasadena, MD, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Northwest Hospital after battling Parkinson's disease since 1992. Born March 20, 1943 in Kingston, PA and growing up in Swoyersville, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Sophie C. (Sitar) Kozlek. He was the husband of Linda Marie (Spicer) Kozlek, whom he married on April 8, 1972. Mr. Kozlek was a graduate of West Side Central Catholic High School as well as King's College in PA where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force by entering the Officers Training School during the Vietnam War. He quickly rose to the rank of Captain and after 4 years and 3 months of service, was honorably discharged on May 17, 1969. After his discharge from the Air Force he worked as an economist for the Civil Aeronautics Board. After 8 years he transferred for a promotion to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission where he worked as a public utility specialist. After nearly 35 years of Federal service he retired in December 2000. Mr. Kozlek was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of various parishes throughout his life. Mr. Kozlek had a life-long passion for fishing and crabbing and told many tall tales. He enjoyed boating for most of his life. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons Michael Peter Kozlek of Finksburg, MD and Stephen Thomas Kozlek and wife Meredith of Westminster, MD; his brothers Thomas F. Kozlek of Shavertown, PA and Alfred T. Kozlek and wife Karen of Sugarloaf, PA; brother-in-law William A. Spicer, Jr. and wife Roberta of Mt. Airy, MD and sister-in-law Kathleen S. Ecklund and husband Edward of Woodstock, MD. Also survived by 3 nieces and 5 nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd, Westminster, MD where a Christian wake service will be held at 7 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 12:00 pm at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St, Westminster, MD. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville, MD. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Parkinson's Foundation.
