Philip George Campbell, 57, of Woodbine, Maryland, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014, as a result of a fatal motorcycle collision. He was born in Baltimore, MD on June 24, 1957 to Paul and Elaine Campbell. Phil graduated from Patterson High School in 1975 and went on to earn an Associate of Science degree from York College of Pennsylvania. He completed Novell and Microsoft certificate courses and worked as a computer programmer. After 20 years in the field, Phil chose a new direction and studied medical procedures to work as a sales representative for a surgical implant company. He was happy and successful in his new career. Phil's interests went far beyond his career. Encouraged by his parents, he learned to love the outdoors during his time as a Boy Scout and camping with the family. Phil had all the necessary gear for any kind of camping trip. He was an avid trout fisherman, a Life Member of Trout Unlimited, and he looked forward to fly fishing on Penn's Creek every spring. He enjoyed hunting deer, turkey and small game. Phil, his Dad and his brother Steve would hunt deer on opening day almost every fall. He delighted in guiding his nephew Nate on his first turkey hunt. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Phil was a motorcycle enthusiast for over 40 years. In July 2014, he, Steve and nephew Zachary proudly completed another rigorous leg of the Trans-America Trail from Colorado over the Rocky Mountains to Nevada. With one last section to go, Phil's dream to complete the TAT will go unfulfilled. Phil developed a remarkably high level of expertise in every interest he pursued. He learned ballroom dancing and won many awards as a competitive dancer. He honed his skills as a photographer and was published in regional magazines. He loved animals and had many pets; the most memorable being his black lab Rocky and his yellow lab Bruno. Phil is survived by his parents, his brothers Tim and Steve, sisters Jackie Estes, Laura Contino, Susan Campbell, sister-in-law Lori Campbell Howard and many loving family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Phil's younger brother Tom passed away in March 2000. A viewing will be held at Keffer Funeral Home, 902 Mount Rose Avenue, York, PA on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Another viewing will be held the following day at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York, PA.
