R. Gary Brown, age 94, formerly of New Windsor, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Lorien in Taneytown. Born April 4, 1923, in New Windsor, he was the son of the late Raymond McClellan Brown and Erma Rita Fowler Brown. He was the devoted husband of Doris Fay Hatfield Brown, his wife of 68 years. Gary was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, New Windsor. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabees Coxswain with the 18th Special Stevedore Battalion from 1943 - 1946, receiving the following ribbons: Pacific Theater, Philippine Liberation, American Theater and Victory. Gary was employed with the U.S. Post Office in New Windsor for 36 years from 1957 - 1993. He enjoyed attending his children's activities, gardening, yardwork and spending time with his family. In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by children, Linda Fay Brown of Los Lunas, NM; Gary Michael Brown and wife Liz of Westminster; Carol Ann Eggers and husband Chuck of Marine on St. Croix, MN, Raymond Allen Brown and wife Joyce of Hampstead and Erma Celeste Brown of Littlestown, PA; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 23 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 200 Main St., New Windsor, with church pastor, Rev. Shari McCourt, officiating. Interment will follow in Winters Cemetery, near New Windsor. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 22. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 250, New Windsor, MD 21776 or to the Auxiliary of the New Windsor Fire Company, P.O.
