R. Larry Nightingale, 68, of Westminster, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Golden Living Center in  Westminster, following an extended battle with cancer.

Born May 25, 1944, in Eastview, he was the son of the late Charles W. Nightingale Sr. and Emily Rebecca Barnes Nightingale.

He had served in the Maryland National Guard from 1962 to 1968. He was a former electrician, owning his own electrical contracting business. He was a retired mortician, working for Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, Eline Funeral Homes, and after his retirement for Hartzler Funeral Home.

He was a member and past president of the Westminster Lions Club and had received the Melvin Jones Award. He was also a member and past president of the Lineboro-Manchester Lions Club and member of the American Legion Carroll Post 31. He was an avid bull riding fan and also enjoyed attending his grandchildrens sporting activities.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law Jason L. and Shannon R. Nightingale, of Westminster; grandchildren Cash B. and Molly W. Nightingale; sister and brother-in-law Yvonne and Elmer Schmidt, of Hayes, Va.; brother and sister-in-law Charles W. Jr. and Jean Nightingale, of Westminster; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pat and Jay Nusbaum, of Westminster; a niece, Jessica Nusbaum, of Westminster; several nieces and nephews; and a friend, Kitty Metcalfe.

He was predeceased by former wife, Bonnie L. Nightingale; and a sister, Janet N. Bish.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, where members of the Westminster Lions Club will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Deacon Charles Barnhart officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Smallwood.
