Ralph G. Leckron, 87, of Westminster, died March 2, 2015 at Longview Nursing Home. Ralph Leckron was born October 8, 1927 in Anderson, Indiana, the youngest of three children to Marie and Bryan Leckron. He was the former husband of Arawana Leckron, who died in March, 2011. He remained in Anderson until World War Two at which time he entered the Brethren Alternative Service and was assigned to a lumber camp as a lumberjack as well as truck driver. After the war he worked as a truck driver for the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor for over 10 years. After leaving his job as a truck driver in 1958, he went to Westminster where he started his own business in the service station-car repair business and remained a highly successful, hardworking, self-made businessman for over 50 years. The business he started still bears his name as Leckron's Towing and Service Center although there is no longer a Leckron family involvement. Ralph was a prolific photographer and left hundreds of slides and pictures as well as many hours of video taken to record family and community history. He enjoyed watching car racing and traveled with his sons on 5 occasions to the Indianapolis 500 in the late 1990s to enjoy the races. Until a partially debilitating stroke around 2002, he enjoyed cruising in his cars around the east coast exploring the history of railroads in the Western Maryland area. Surviving are sons Sidney R. Leckron of New Windsor and Spencer L. Leckron, Sr. of Westminster; brother Paul F. Leckron of Seymore, Indiana; grandchildren Todd Leckron of Hanover, PA, Adam Leckron of Westminster, Amanda Feeney of Frederick, Spencer Leckron, Jr. and Joshua Leckron of Westminster; and great grandchildren Annabelle, Andrew and Joceyln Leckron and Liam and Clare Feeney. He was predeceased by sister Mary C. Kuszmaul. At his request interment and services were private. Cremation arrangements by PRITTS FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society of Carroll County, Inc, 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD 21158.
