Ralph Wilson "Woody" Wood, Jr., 72, of Finksburg passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Carroll Hospital Center. Born July 20, 1942, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Ralph W., Sr. and Bridget (Welsch) Wood Rose. He was the loving husband of Valerie J. (Williams) Wood, his wife of 33 years. He was a graduate of Baltimore City College and served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. He worked as a Federal Security Officer for the Social Security Administration. Woody was a life member of the Westminster Elks, B.P.O.E. #2277, V.F.W. Post#751, Randallstown and American Legion Post 0297. He was also a proud member of the National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), Chapter #2306. He was an avid sports fan, especially auto racing and of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. For many years he was active in drag and stock car racing as a driver and mechanic, and as an owner in the ARCA series. He used to breed and show cats and dogs. He enjoyed crafting, especially woodworking and photography. Surviving in addition to his wife are God-daughter Nicole Miller Overholtzer, her husband Chris and their son Seth, all of Westminster; Close friends Robert and Helen Miller of Westminster; Sister-in-law Sharon Stoegbauer and husband Gary and brother-in-law Stan Williams all of Chattanooga, TN and brother-in-law Dr. Edwin Williams and wife Susan of Columbus, OH; niece Heather Bush of Sharpsburg and nephews Ryan Nusbaum of Littlestown, PA and Jason Nusbaum of Abbottstown, PA. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at the Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Art Monroe, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Wesley Freedom Cemetery, Sykesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Donations Department, P.O. Box 3950, San Rafael, CA 94912-3950 or to the Cornell Feline Health Center, College of Veterinary Medicine, Box 39, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853.
