Rauland Hobart Roop, 87, of New Windsor, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Glade Valley Center in Walkersville.

Born July 12, 1926, near New Windsor, he was the son of the late Ralph Geiman Roop and Grace Englar Roop. He was the husband of Talitha Ann Roop, who died in 2011.

He attended the New Windsor School and was a member of Edgewood Church of the Brethren. He was a dairy farmer, had a lime spreading service, was a salesman for Sanford Seed and was a truck driver for Mitchell Transport.

He was a former member of the New Windsor Progressive Farmers, the Carroll County Farm Bureau, the Maryland-Virginia Milk Producers Association, the Carroll County Republican Central Committee and the Carroll County Board of Elections in the New Windsor district. He enjoyed traveling, antique tractors, playing cards and bingo.

Surviving are daughter Jan Stambaugh and husband Charles, of New Windsor; sons R. Scott Roop, and R. Steven Roop and wife Vickie, all of New Windsor, and Samuel K. Roop and wife Mary Jane, of Thurmont; grandchildren Mike and Tim Roop, Kitty Owings, Shane Roop, Kelley Reed, Joe Collins, Julie Tingue, Lauren Roop, Jake Roop, Ian Staley, Evan Staley, Ryan Stambaugh and Shannon Franklin; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and brothers Dr. R. Gary Roop, of New Windsor, and Daniel E. Roop, of Westminster.

He was predeceased by a sister, Winifred Moran.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Leatherman, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
