Raymond Thomas 'Happy' Fritz, 90, of New Windsor, died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Lorien of Taneytown, after an extended illness.

Born March 20, 1924, in New Windsor, he was the son of the late Hollie and Carrie Flickinger Fritz. He was the husband of Dorothy E. Royer Fritz, his wife of 67 years.

He was a member of the Army 1st Division from 1943 to 1945, serving in France and Germany, and he reenlisted while in Germany. He was formerly employed with the State Highway Administration in Westminster, and retired after 25 years.

He was a member of Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren, a life member of VFW Post 8806 in Union Bridge and a past member of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Company.

He enjoyed raising show king pigeons, gardening and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son Michael Wayne Fritz and wife Cheryl, of Hanover, Pennsylvania; a daughter-in-law, Mary Fritz; grandchildren Lisa Fritz, Lori Parr, Wendy Donahue and David Fritz; a step-granddaughter, Rachel Huss; four great-grandchildren; four nieces; two nephews; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Raymond "Tom" Fritz Jr., who died in 1997; and brothers Kenneth, Paul, Jim and Harold Fritz.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Judy Strayer, former chaplain with Carroll Hospital Center, and the Rev. Doug Wantz, his pastor, officiating. Military interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood.
