Richard August Metz, 79, of Finksburg, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Carroll Hospital Center after a battle with lung cancer.

Born Aug. 5, 1934, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Richard Wilhelm and Sophie Metz. He was the husband of Susanne K. Metz, his wife of 52 years.

He was a veteran of the Army. He had earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy and later a master's degree in business administration at Loyola College. He was the senior vice president of investment services at New Windsor State Bank.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Leslie Abendschoen and fiance Craig Coleman, of Reisterstown, Lynn Meadow and husband Max, of San Carlos, Calif., and Larry Metz and wife Jessica, of Glenwood; a sister, Barbara Ann Miller, of Richmond, Va.; and grandchildren Kellie Loehr and husband Don, Kevin Abendschoen, Logan and Savannah Meadow, and Molly and Maggie Metz.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Ascension, 23 N. Court St., Westminster, with the Rev. Stephen Swift officiating. Interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery.
