Richard B. "Shorty" Long, 80, of Hanover, Pa., died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Transitions HealthCare in Gettysburg, Pa.

Born July 21, 1933, in Westminster, he was the son of the late Jesse and Naomi Hopkins Long. He was the husband of Helen L. Puffinburger Long, who died Feb. 13, 2013.

He served in the Marines Corps during the Korean War. He was retired from Conewago Contractors of Hanover. He was a life member of the former Conewago fire company and of SAVES.

Surviving are children Richard B. Long Jr. and wife Suzanne, of North Carolina, Edward E. Long and companion Diane Klingan, of Hanover, Pa., Patti Jo Green and husband Richard, of Westminster, and Audrey Eckard and companion Dan Ness, of Glen Rock, Pa.; step-children Edward, Joseph and Robert Reckley, and Rosemary Walser, all of Maryland, Dorothy Stein, of Florida, Susan Stull, of York, Pa., and Joyce Cramer, of West Virginia; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin Long, of Westminster; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by siblings Robert Long, Betty Bowlin, and Hazel Elmo.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 725 Baltimore St., Hanover, with the Rev. Thomas Cantville officiating. The Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
