Richard Neal Dix, of Harrison, AR, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Hospice of the Hills House. He was 84 years old. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13 at Holt Memorial Chapel from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of God Catholic Church with Rev. Father Jim Fanrak officiating. Burial will be in Mary Mother of God Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Paul Dix, David Dix, Ted Dix, Timothy Dix, Kevin Alexander, and Matthew Alexander. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Knights of Columbus. The son of Tandy Alfred and Mamie Elizabeth (Horne) Dix was born on December 26, 1931 at Parkton, Maryland. Richard received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Physics in 1953 from Western Maryland College in Westminster, MD and received a Juris Doctor Degree in Law at the University of Baltimore in June of 1969. He was a member of Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, where he was Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Before his conversion to Catholicism, he was the Lay Leader at Zion Methodist Church in Westminster, MD. He was a member and past president of the Sons of the American Revolution and was a member and past commander of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Richard played the clarinet in the William F. Myers Band in Westminster, MD and also played the violin in the Theater Company's musical productions in Harrison, AR. He was also a member of the Ukulele Band in Harrison. Richard also taught beginning computer at the Senior Center in Harrison. He was a member of the Board of the Boone County Heritage Museum and wrote many articles for the Boone County Historian. Richard was a hospice volunteer for Hospice of the Hills for a number of years. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and worked for the U.S. Navy Department from 1969 to 1992. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Lorraine (Rowe) Dix, of the home; four children, Paul Neal Dix and wife, Martha, of PA, Jennifer Elizabeth (Dix) Alexander and husband, Kevin, of Harrison, David Christian Dix, of Harrison, and Tandy Edward Dix and wife, Gretchen, of MD; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Elsie (Dix) Brubaker and husband, Robert, of Littlestown, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, P.O. Box 2150, Harrison, AR 72602 or to Hospice of the Hills Hospice House, 501 E Sherman Ave, Harrison, AR 72601.
