Richard Joseph Kehoe, 84, of Westminster, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Lorien in Taneytown. Born Oct. 18, 1931 in Westminster, he was the son of the late Madeline Massicot Kehoe and Edward Kehoe, Sr. He was the husband of the late Clare Ann Kehoe. A 1948 graduate of St. John High School, he served in the United States Air Force in the 71st Air Rescue Squadron in Alaska. He spent his career as an engineer with the Maryland State Highway Administration. He enjoyed growing spring flowers and tomatoes, reading the news and spending time with family. He loved baseball and was an Orioles fan. A lifelong dog lover, as a boy he had a German shepherd named Xerxes that he acquired from Esther Chambers, the wife of Whittaker Chambers of the "Pumpkin Papers" spy case. His final years were brightened by the companionship of a dachshund named Duncan, adopted from the Carroll County Humane Society. He is survived by children and spouses Lynn Kehoe George and husband Rick, Terry Kehoe Barrick and husband Dean and Andrea Kehoe, all of Westminster, sister and brother-in-law Mary Kehoe Leppo and husband Dean of Union Mills, grandchildren Brent W. George of Columbia, Annie Dunnigan and husband Matt of Westminster, Alisha George and husband Michael James of Brigantine, NJ, and Aisling Barrick of Westminster, a great-grandson Maximus Dunnigan of Westminster, sisters-in-law Merle Kehoe of Spring, TX and Lillian Kehoe of Westminster, a nephew William Edward Kehoe of Fort Myers, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter Leslie Karen Kehoe and brothers Edward Kehoe, Jr. and Thomas Albert Kehoe. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster. Interment with military honors will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
