Richard Lee Dorsey, 69, of Baltimore, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson.

Born Feb. 3, 1944, in New Windsor, he was the son of the late Bertie D. Wilson. He was the husband of Sandra E. Dorsey.

He earned his high school diploma from Robert Moton Consolidated School in Westminster in 1962. While attending high school he enjoyed participating in basketball, soccer and track. He developed a lifelong friendship with his high school coach, Stanislaus Chase. In his formative years he attended Strawbridge United Methodist Church in New Windsor.

He worked as an accomplished chef at several restaurants in Baltimore. In his spare time he enjoyed watching sports, caring for his dog, cooking and fellowship over meals with family members and friends, and going on vacations.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Regina M. Dorsey, of Derwood, and Cynthia R. and husband Joseph Jenkins, of Germantown; a son, Richard L. Dorsey Jr., of Baltimore; a stepson, Derek Abrams, of Oxon Hill; a goddaughter, Candice Footman, of Baltimore; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary D. Carter Cross, of Baltimore; brothers and sisters-in-law James and Martha Dorsey, of Parkville, Francis and Dorothy Dorsey, of Orangeburg, S.C., Nelson and Patricia Dorsey, of Westminster, Kenneth and Bertha Dorsey, of Jersey City, N.J., George and Josephine Dorsey, of Bronx, N.Y., Leon and Elise Dorsey, of Charlotte, N.C., and John and Margaret Dorsey, of Baltimore.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Melissa L. Dorsey; a grandson, Noah Dorsey; sisters Gwendolyn Dorsey Dorm, Naomi Lee, and Ruth Mitchell; and brothers William, Lawrence, and Raymond Dorsey.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at March Funeral Home, 1101 E. North Ave., Baltimore; and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. Wednesday at Manna Bible Baptist Church, 3043 W. Belvedere Ave., Baltimore, with Ambassador Blango Ross officiating.
