Richard Lewis Zander, Sr, 87, of Union Bridge, died Dec. 31, 2012 at his home.

Born Nov. 12, 1925 in Quarryville, Pa, he was the son of the late Harry and Emma Bruce Zander. He was the husband of the late Beulah Witte Zander who died in May 2006.

He had been an engineer for Black and Decker until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed woodworking where he built his grandfather clock cabinet, trapshooting at Stemmers Run, fishing, photography and bear watching with his wife every summer in Kodiak, Alaska, for more than 20 years.

Surviving is son Richard L. Zander, Jr. and wife Susan Zander, of Manassas, Va.; sisters and brothers-in-law Elaine and Elmer Cullison, of Hampstead, and Patricia and Ed Murphy, of Sparks; grandchildren Jason Michie, Jennifer Miller and Steve Zander; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Officiating will be Hospice Chaplain Donald Hohne. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
