Richard Nordean Nelson Sr., age 73, of Union Bridge, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home. Born May 7, 1943 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Clarence Ruben and Ellen Wolander Nelson. He was the husband of Linda Bowers Nelson, his wife of 45 years. Richard was employed for many years with Prime Manufacturing of Union Bridge until his retirement. He enjoyed word search puzzles, tinkering with small projects, woodworking and spending time with his family. Surviving are daughters, Melanie Nelson Fisher and husband Brian and Wanda Faye Carroll, all of Hanover, PA; and son, Richard N. Nelson Jr. and wife Laurie of Hanover; 4 grandchildren, Travis and wife Liz, Casie and fiancé Rob, George and Aleisha; 2 great grandchildren, Savannah and Paxton; 2 sisters, Carol Blubaugh of Westminster and Wanda Waugh and husband John of Lineboro; 6 brothers, Marvin C. Nelson and wife Betty of New Windsor, Donald E. Nelson and wife Mae of Starke, FL, Orval S. Nelson Sr. and wife Shirley of Thomasville, GA, George A. Nelson of Westminster and Harold W. and Elmer C. Nelson, both of Littlestown, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Irvin and Clayton Nelson; sister-in-law, Shirley Nelson, brother-in-law, Marden Blubaugh and nephew, Charles Nelson. A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 9 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until time of service. Please no flowers due to family allergies.
