Richard Phillip Zimmerman, 54, of New Windsor, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, of a heart attack in his parent's home.

Born Nov. 26, 1958, in Takoma Park, he was the son of Carl and Margaret Zimmerman, of Frederick. He was the husband of Elizabeth Zimmerman, whom he married June 6, 1980.

He graduated from Takoma Academy in Takoma Park and attended Howard Community College majoring in business. He, with his parents, began a business in 1978 known today as WaterWorks Pools and Spas in Eldersburg. A second location, Frederick Pools and Spas, is located in Frederick.

He sponsored many youth athletic teams through the Freedom Area Soccer and Freedom Area Recreation League over the last 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he could. He was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan and was overjoyed with their recent Super Bowl win. He was known to have a great sense of humor.

Surviving, in addition to his parents and wife, are children R. Bradford Zimmerman and friend Kate Molander, Amanda Zimmerman and friend Jacob Corty, and Ryan Zimmerman, all of New Windsor; brothers Steven Zimmerman and wife Tina, of Bel Air, and David Zimmerman and wife Debbie, of New Jersey; sister Dawna Friestad and husband Wayne, of Orlando, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; long time assistant, Sandy Ciepiela; and life-long friend Al Miles.

He was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Zimmerman, who died in 2004.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of memorial service, 5 p.m. Saturday at Frederick Seventh-day Adventist Church chapel, 6437 Jefferson Pike, Frederick, with the Rev. K. Dick Thomas officiating.
